At Stilglen Miniature Schnauzers, as qualified groomers, we offer hand stripping grooming services to discerning owners of Miniature Schnauzers. We only carry out hand stripping for our clients and provide support to assist clients between grooming appointments. If we consider that your dogs coat is not suitable for stripping we will advise on alternatives and where possible recommend a suitable groomer.
Our grooming services are tailored to meet the unique needs of each dog, we do not routinely use clippers except for cheeks, throat and rear hygiene areas. If requested we will clipper your dogs ears and head, but please understand that you will loose the distinctive Pepper and Salt pattern from the head and ears if you do clipper these areas and the Black colour from Blacks and Black and Silvers will be lost.
PLEASE NOTE
When bathing your dog we only use products specifically designed for wire coats - incorrect shampoo etc can soften your dogs coat and cause skin irritation. If we don't / won't use it on our show dogs we won't use it on your dog. Additionally we only use the same quality tools (Brushes, Combs, Stripping Knives etc.) as we use for our show dogs, all stripping tools are supplied by Groomer.dk.
We do not operate in the public marketplace, we only groom miniature schnauzers for selected clients.

Hand stripping Grooming
Hand stripping is a grooming technique specifically for wire-coated breeds like Miniature Schnauzers. It involves pulling out the dead outer coat to promote healthy hair growth as it is naturally meant to be. Whilst working on the farm the coat would be naturally pulled by hedges, undergrowth etc and allow the new coat to grow in. When the coat is clippered the harsh outer hairs (the wire coat) is cut and over time weakens and no longer provides the desired protection. When this protection is no longer available various scenarios occur e.g when the coat gets wet (rain) it acts like a woolen jumper and retains the water. This can cause severe chilling of your dog especially if combined with low temperatures and chill winds. Additionally with a dog that is clipped you will loose the distinctive colour of the Pepper and Salt coat which will turn a plain grey colour, Black Miniature Schnauzers will go grey as will Black and Silver. In Blacks and Black and Silver you may for a short period of time retain the black colour of the body coat if the undercoat is Black, which not all are.
